Strategic Procurement Outlook
The Clean Energy Regulator is established by the Clean Energy Regulator Act 2011 and is a non-corporate Commonwealth entity for the purposes of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013.
The Clean Energy Regulator administers schemes legislated by the Australian Government for measuring, managing, reducing or offsetting Australia's carbon emissions.
Our role is determined by climate change law. We have administrative responsibilities for the:
- National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme and the safeguard mechanism, under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007
- Emissions Reduction Fund, under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011
- Renewable Energy Target, under the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000, and
- Australian National Registry of Emissions Units, under the Australian National Registry of Emissions Units Act 2011.
The Clean Energy Regulator is located in Canberra with approximately 300 staff. Procurement activity is centralised however each division manages their requirements with advice, assistance and oversight provided by the Business Operations Division.
