Addressing skills gaps through industry-engaged VET and higher education is a priority for governments and institutions across India. By working collaboratively with governments and industry partners, the project will seek to establish a model for international partnerships in key industry sectors to enhance the quality and relevance of local VET while showcasing the strengths of Australian qualifications in delivering skills. This will see greater progress towards alignment of Australia and India’s education systems and enhanced opportunities for students to contribute to skilled workforces in both India and Australia. The project will demonstrate the potential of industry and government-aligned partnerships to foster greater skills mobility and facilitate transnational delivery of Australian education and training in industries where there are critical and emerging skills needs.

The purpose of the project is to research, design and deliver pilot training products, in partnership with stakeholders from the Australian international education sector and Australian and Indian agriculture sectors, that meet India’s emerging agricultural skills needs and provide a market opportunity for Australian education providers while strengthening the bilateral relationship by developing skills for a critical industry.

It will deliver partnerships between industry and education providers of both countries through co-development of occupational standards for critical and emerging job roles across India’s key agriculture sub-sectors that require advanced agriculture practices, such as the use of special technology, digitisation, machinery, automation, and data management across agricultural production and ancillary sectors.

The project will run from 2022 to 2024 and is an opportunity to establish a skills pipeline between India and Australia’s agriculture sectors, through training based on Australia’s quality, regulated skills qualifications.
