The Department is encouraging organisations and/or established or future consortia, who are able to demonstrate current or future partnerships between industry and research expertise, to work with us and the recently constituted Aged Care Workforce Industry Council (the Council) to co-design an effective operational model for the Centre for Growth and Translational Research (CGTR).

On 1 May 2019, the Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison, announced an election commitment of $34 million to establish the CGTR. The CGTR is scheduled to be established in early 2021 and will receive Australian Government funding through to 30 June 2024, after which the Aged Care Industry will identify alternative funding sources for its continued operation.

The development of the CGTR will require significant innovation and creativity, as well as effective collaboration with the Aged Care sector in order to integrate their own specific vision and priorities in relation to sector-wide growth and translational research. The CGTR’s development must also reflect the current and ongoing advice and recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
