The Australian Government is promoting Australia as a host of choice for major international sporting events (MSEs) with an unprecedented timeline of events culminating in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. A new strategic and coordinated approach to Australian Government support across the event lifecycle is proposed to attract, deliver and leverage MSEs to provide the greatest social, sporting, and economic benefits for all Australians.

A new model for Australian Government support for MSEs is anticipated to:

  • provide clear and improved resources for national sporting organisations, major event organisers, and state and territory governments to engage with the Australian Government across all phases of the MSE delivery process, including identification, feasibility, bidding, planning, delivery, leveraging and evaluation.
  • provide guidance on the scope of potential Australian Government support for national sporting organisations to undertake strategic analysis and planning for MSEs as part of their long-term growth strategies and sustainability.
  • assist the Australian Government in effective, timely and transparent decision-making with respect to its support for bidding, hosting, and leveraging of MSEs in Australia.
  • support greater whole-of-government engagement in the delivery of MSEs in Australia from both an operational and leveraging perspective.
  • ensure an enhanced evaluation process post-MSEs to inform future program design, investment considerations and service delivery.

As part of the new model outlined above, the Supplier is required to develop a strategic investment assessment tool and coinciding methodology to inform Government’s consideration of investment in MSEs.
