Repair of Blowholes Boardwalk and Associated Structures at Christmas Island National Park
(a) Structure of the Director
(i) The Director of National Parks (DNP) and staff of Parks Australia contribute to the conservation and appreciation of Australia’s biological diversity and associated cultural heritage, through management of Commonwealth reserves established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) (6 national parks, 59 marine reserves and 2 botanic gardens) and management of programs on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment.
(ii) Christmas Island national park is a Commonwealth reserve managed by the DNP in accordance with the EPBC Act.
(b) Summary of Goods and Services and Works
(i) The RFT is intended to establish a contract works for the Repair of Blowholes boardwalk and associated structures.
(ii) The Blowholes is a major visitor destination and experience in CINP. The existing boardwalk at this site has numerous issues with corrosion that need repair and remediation to ensure that the asset can last through to the design life of the structure (25 years) and reduce WHS issues for visitors and staff.
