The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority requires an efficient and reliable courier service to carry out its very important function of pick up, transport and delivery of testing equipment including athlete samples in a manner that preserves and documents the chain of custody of the sample within the sample
collection process.
Athlete samples currently include Urine and Blood and these are contained within glass or plastic security bottles and securely packaged in foam boxes which are relatively heat resistant and minimise possible damage to the bottles.
In relation to transportation, these samples are considered Diagnostic Specimens – Not Restricted – Packed in accordance with IATA 650. Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority
Athlete samples are usually transported in an ASADA security bag which does not normally weigh over 10kg. The dimensions of the bags are 50cm long x 40cm high x 30cm wide.
These samples may either be collected from ASADA employee’s homes or work offices located around Australia. Most collection points will be within State Capital zones and/or local metropolitan areas however there are requirements for pick ups from regional areas such as Townsville, Rockhampton, Coffs Harbour, etc.
A majority of samples will be required to be delivered to the WADA accredited Australian Sports Drug Testing Laboratory located in Pymble, Sydney NSW. Some samples will be required to be delivered to other WADA accredited laboratories located in overseas major city destinations as determined from time
to time (e.g. the Laboratory in Los Angeles California USA).

d. paragraph 9.1 (subject to paragraph 10) of the RFT.
