Australia Assists is an Australian Government funded program that provides surge support and capability development through deployment of technical specialists to work with multilateral agencies, governments, civil society, and communities to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters and conflict. It enables the mobilisation and deployment of specialists into geographic and thematic areas of priority in line with Australia’s humanitarian commitments and national interests.  Australia Assists forms part of the Australian Government’s humanitarian response framework and contributes to Australian Commitments under the Grand Bargain.  In doing so, Australia Assists is a mechanism that contributes to strengthening Australia’s bilateral and multilateral relationships and enhances Australia’s foreign policy and international diplomacy efforts.

Australia Assists will deliver services across all stages of the humanitarian cycle through:

  1. deployment of technical personnel to deliver services, on behalf of the Australian Government, that support partner governments, United Nations (UN) organisations, multilateral agencies, and civil societies to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and conflict; and
  2. building in-country capability, anticipated to be delivered through mentoring and/or training  programs.
