Expression of Interest

:

The Australian Government is developing a coordinated approach to managing agency data centres.  To guide this work, a whole-of-government data centre working group has been formed from a representative set of agencies.  Industry representatives are invited to meet with the working group and provide a 30 minute presentation.

Please register your interest in presenting to the working group by emailing datacentres@finance.gov.au.

:

The Working Group will not provide comment on any current or potential future Australian Government data centre procurement activities.

In preparing their presentation, representatives should restrict their response to answering or commenting on the following issues.  Representatives are encouraged to use these focus questions as guidance, and respond to them literally.

The Working Group is interested in exploring these issues, not evaluating a representative’s capability.

a. In your opinion what are the optimum physical location/s and specifications (such as power, cooling, floor height and loading, communications, tier level) data centre capability in the immediate (0-2 years), short term (2-5 years), medium (5-8 years) and long term (8-20 years)?

b. What are the best approaches to manage multi-tenant facilities?  What has this experience indicated about ways to manage and generate the most benefit from these arrangements?

c. What are the average costs (kilowatts, per metre, per year, etc) and how are these expected to change over the next 15 years? What factors should the Working Group consider in a cost/benefit analysis and how may these change in the future?

d. What strategies are best to implement to accommodate growth and data centre technology developments?

e. What strategies do you recommend to improve the green credentials of data centre/s?

f. What other key issues should the Working Group address when developing short, medium and long term strategies?

Explanatory Notes:

Data Centre Strategy – The Working Group is seeking comments on strategies for data centre facility infrastructure rather than data centre Information and Communications Technology (ICT) equipment.  Representatives may however provide additional advice on consolidating data centre ICT equipment.

Multi-Tenant Facility – The Working Group is seeking comment on issues in managing multi-tenant data centre facilities.  This may include differing tenant requirements on security, office space, building access and expansion capabilities
