Request for Expressions of Interest in relation to the Australian Ballistic Information Network 13/616
Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Darwin, Hobart
To deliver the Australian Ballistics Identification Network (ABIN) project, CrimTrac requires sets of equipment and networking capability to be delivered and implemented in Australian police agencies to build on and complement the existing sets of equipment already implemented by some Australian police agencies.
The key requirement of the ABIN project is that each Australian police agency is provided with the capability to electronically collect ballistic imagery in order to facilitate an automated comparison of images collected locally, as well as images collected by each of the other Australian police agencies.
The ABIN will bridge the current shortfall of cross border comparison of ballistic evidence, necessary to develop a detailed picture of illicit firearm crime in Australia, and the trafficking of firearms across jurisdiction borders.
