The Australian Border Force (ABF) Radiation Detection and Identification fleet enables the testing of cargo and containers for the identification of radioisotopes imported into Australia, as well as confirming activity levels in legitimate shipments of radioisotopes. It also provides a strong degree of WHS protection for ABF personnel in compliance with legislative and regulatory obligations.

This procurement seeks to replace and possibly expand the current radiation detection and identification fleet, in order to provide the ABF the strongest opportunity of detecting radioisotope nuclides, including special nuclear materials and the presence of radioactive substances, as well as locating sources of the radiation.

The Department seeks to engage suitably qualified organisations for provision of a replacement and sustained Radiation Detection and Identification Fleet.
