The project includes the construction of an extension to the existing HMAS Stirling Armament Wharf and associated infrastructure to support the Explosive Ordnance (EO) cargo loading requirements of the new Maritime Operational Support Capability (MOSC) as well as the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) fleet including the future Hunter Class Frigate and Collins Class Submarine replacement.

 

(a)                         the works include the following:

 

(i)      the Construction of a 107° extension to the existing Armament Wharf consisting of:

 

A.                          a 156m long by 25m wide in-situ flat concrete wharf deck on a tubular steel pile wharf with a local widening to 33m at the northern end of the wharf deck to facilitate vehicle U-turns;

 

B.                          one berthing dolphin;

 

C.                          two mooring dolphins at the northern end with access via lightweight steel walkways;

 

D.                          access and egress including turn around points for safe movement and operation of the 12.5m long Heavy Rigid Vehicle design vehicle and a 100t mobile crane;

 

E.                           cathodic protection; and

 

F.                           a structural design life of 100 years;

 

(ii)                         construction of wharf services on the Armament Wharf extension including:

 A.                       installation of firefighting, potable water and electrical (lighting) mains along the extend of the wharf;

 

B.                          provision of wharf lighting to facilitate night-time EO loading;

 

C.                          installation of necessary security systems across the new and existing wharf in accordance with Defence’s security requirements; and

 

D.                          provision of minor upgrades to the existing information and communication technology (ICT) networks to enable connectivity between ship security cameras and the base security camera network;

 

(iii)                         provision and installation of wharf furniture for the Armament Wharf extension including:

 

A.                          fender systems to support the berthing of the MOSC and RAN fleet;

 

B.                          firefighting hose reel cabinets and extinguishers;

 

C.                          heavy duty guard rails; and

(iv) dredging of navigational waters in the vicinity of the Armament Wharf extension.

The Building Code 2016 applies.  If the Building Code 2016 applies then by lodging a Registration of Interest, the Applicant will become subject to the Building Code 2016.

WHS Accreditation Scheme
