In response to a significant number of job losses in Geelong the Department requires an Employment Facilitator to continue providing a local point of contact and, in collaboration with jobactive providers, work directly with retrenched workers to connect them with training, job opportunities and to link them with other existing support. The timeframe for the delivery of employment facilitator services to the region is from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2019.

 As part of the role the Employment Facilitator will work with stakeholders including the Department, employers, employment services and training providers and community sectors, to identify projects or activities which may be funded to generate employment opportunities and assist retrenched workers in the region.

 The Employment Facilitator role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Working effectively with the current Employment Facilitator to transition the role and any ongoing activities, networks and relationships;

  • Building and sustaining productive working relationships with employers and other stakeholders to identify and coordinate access to employment opportunities in the Geelong region and elsewhere for:

    • Former workers from the automotive industry who have not found a new job.

    • Retrenched workers more generally.

  • Establishing effective communication strategies with businesses affected by large scale job losses, to identify those workers impacted by redundancy and to offer support and direction when accessing employment and training services;

  • Facilitating cooperative partnerships with Australian and Victorian state government agencies in the region along with local government and regional authorities to engage their assistance in coordinating services to workers and their families;

  • Proactively developing regional job creation projects in accordance with government initiatives and in consultation with key stakeholders including Australian and state government agencies. Projects will generate employment opportunities and assist retrenched workers in the region.

  • Working closely with jobactive providers, training and peak body organisations and education providers on collaboration arrangements that will maximize support to retrenched workers across retraining and new employment opportunities;

  • Reporting regularly to the Victorian Country Regional Manager of the Department of Employment as per reporting requirements. This will include reporting of issues, trends and progress against nominated milestones and actions;

  • Undertaking travel within the region and externally, as required; and

  • Undertaking travel to the biannual employment facilitator’s conference.

The actions may be expanded to include additional requirements that may be identified as a part of further consultations with stakeholders and the Department of Employment.
