1. Introduction
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) purpose is to help make Australia stronger, safer and more prosperous by promoting and protecting our interests internationally and contributing to global stability and economic growth.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the government. We work with other government agencies to ensure that Australia’s pursuit of its global, regional and bilateral interests is coordinated effectively.
DFAT is the lead agency managing Australia’s international presence, operating a network of 115 overseas posts in five continents with over 2,900 staff located in Australia and an additional 3,300 personnel employed overseas.
Information Communications and Technology (ICT) is critical to DFAT’s day-to-day business operation and with such a large and complex international network it is essential that DFAT maintains an efficient and secure network environment.
It is essential that DFAT’s data holdings and ICT infrastructure are protected from information security threats and its systems are fit for purpose and comply with Commonwealth Government regulations.
