The proposed Works are to be undertaken at the Christmas Island Grants Well precinct located approximately 13 kilometres from the main settlement. The proposed Works for the Grants Well Conservation and Information Centre, as a summary encompasses the construction of the information centre, remediation of an existing house and associated landscape works as set out in the design documents (Schedule 4).

2.1                  General Scope of Works

The proposed Works include the following,

·       Interpretation Annex – specially constructed annex that serves as the focal point for visitors to learn about the importance of Grants Well and the National Park.

·       Existing House – house to be preserved and maintained to serve as additional interpretation and information centre. Note parts of the house will be demolished, and others partly demolished and preserved.

·       Picnic Shelters – shelters are arranged throughout the site for day use by visitors.

·       Toilet Facilities – new facilities located centrally

·       Playground – construction of a purpose-built adventure playground

·       Camping platforms and board walk – located in the original orchard zone. Protection of the existing fruit trees will be important during the construction phase.

·       Grants Well board walk – designed to extend into the location of the existing well site.

·       Mountain Bike Shed – demolish and retain parts of the existing dilapidated shed and construct new structure over the existing plinths.

·       Signage and wayfinding – spread throughout the site

·       Miscellaneous works to protect the site – such as fence around the Tsunami Monitoring site.
