The Department is implementing enhancements to common knowledge and learning systems for the My Aged Care Workforce (the Workforce), part of the Connecting Senior Australians to Aged Care Services Budget Measure 2021-22. There are significant reforms underway that impact on the aged care policy and service delivery environment. These changes have a direct impact on the capability and training needs of the Workforce engaged to delivery My Aged Care access (screening and registration), assessment and supporting navigation services.

In line with the 2019 My Aged Care Screening and Assessment Workforce Training Strategy (Training Strategy), the Department is committed to implementing minimum training requirements that build on workforce capability and quality outcomes for consumers. This includes the Workforce having access to a high-quality suit of on-line learning materials and support for workplace or facilitator-led training where appropriate.

The Department has recently procured a Learning Management System (LMS) to bring the design and development of on-line learning in-house. Core training for the new LMS, MAClearning, is currently under development by the Department and will build on existing on-line learning materials made available to the Workforce.

Therefore, there is a need to develop a new quality training framework and evaluation methodologies to ensure that minimum training requirements maintain service standards and outcomes for consumers and are mapped to the relevant job roles, skills, and legislative requirements for the workforce.

In delivering on the object of the services, the Department would highly regard a consortium arrangement, for example an effective working partnership between a training/learning organisation and an aged care, allied health, or assessment organisation(s).
