The Australian Government supports people to start and run small businesses to create jobs, grow the economy and improve labour market outcomes. Self employment programs provide support for people to create their own work and earn an income through starting a new business, as well as providing assistance to existing micro-business owners.
In May 2021, the Government announced changes to the delivery of the New Business Assistance with NEIS and the Entrepreneurship Facilitator programs. Providers seeking to deliver self-employment programs will support people to start and run viable small businesses by giving participants greater flexibility to choose the services most relevant to their individual circumstances.
The Department of Education, Skills and Employment (the department) will be consulting with stakeholders on the changes to these two programs through a Self-Employment Services 2022–2027 Consultation Paper prior to proceeding to Requests for Tender for each of these programs. The department plans to release the Consultation Paper in early October 2021.
