Geoscience Australia seeks to identify information associated with the proposed Australian SBAS.

The information received as a result of this Request for Information (RFI) process will inform government decision making for the SBAS program. In seeking your response, the Commonwealth wishes to ensure that this planning and decision making occurs with the full benefit of the information provided by your organisation.

This is a market research exercise and is not an approach to the market. The Commonwealth will not down select or exclude any companies from future participation in the implementation of the SBAS Program based on their participation in this RFI or attendance or non-attendance at the Industry Brief. This notice or completion of the RFI or attendance at the Industry Brief does not represent a guarantee of future work in any format.

SBAS Program

The 2018-2019 Federal Budget allocated $225 million for better positioning systems for Australia. This budget includes $160.9 million over four years to deliver an operational Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS). Further ongoing operational funding has been allocated to the Program.

The Minister for Resources and Northern Australia is responsible for the Program. Geoscience Australia (GA) is responsible for the acquisition and development of a SBAS. The aviation sector specific aspects of the Program will be delivered in cooperation with Airservices Australia.

SBAS should augment standalone Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) positioning to support the aviation, maritime, rail and road transport sectors, which have a requirement for high-integrity positioning with guaranteed performance. The SBAS should also support a precise correction capability that can deliver decimetre accurate services across all of Australia and its maritime zones with anticipated applications in the agriculture, maritime, mining, spatial and construction sectors.

An Australian SBAS should overcome current gaps in mobile and radio telecommunications coverage that should ensure that accurate and reliable positioning information can be received anytime and anywhere outdoors within Australia.

:

An industry brief will be held to introduce the SBAS project, provide an outline of A19/189, the process of an RFI and allow an open forum for industry to ask questions. These questions may be answered on the day during the forum or will be taken on notice with answers uploaded to AusTender as an addendum.

The brief will be held from 11am - 12pm on Monday 6 May 2019, in the Sir Harold Raggatt Theatre (Room G.094) at Geoscience Australia, Canberra, ACT. No RSVP is required.
