Server Room Cooling System
Melbourne
At the Australian Synchrotron the accelerator is an advanced third generation design. It is a succession of machines with increasingly higher energies, injecting a particle beam each time into the next accelerator, bringing the beam to energy increasingly higher. It consists of a 100 MeV linear accelerator, 100 MeV to 3 GeV booster synchrotron and the 3 GeV storage ring.
There is provision in the Australian Synchrotron 5 year Asset Management Plan to install two separate cooling systems for the Server Room. The current demand of the room will be largely increased over the next few years therefore units will run with 2 units always running at low load and the remaining unit as backup in case of failure or extreme load requirements.
