The NDIA is committed to changing the way Assistive Technology (AT) is provided for children younger than 7 so that participants have timely access to AT that represents value for money. This includes giving participants more options for sourcing and/or accessing AT, such as trial before buying and access to equipment loan pools.

The NDIA seeks input from providers that have established or emerging capabilities that can help deliver these new ways of sourcing and/or accessing assistive technology in early childhood. This input will shape the Approach design and its subsequent commissioning.

The NDIA may use the feedback gained from this RFI to inform the design of a new approach to the provision of Assistive Technology for children.

Through this RFI, the NDIA seeks to hear from a wide variety of providers with a range of capabilities, which might include supply, logistics, assessment and technology.

In particular the NDIA is seeking to resolve the following key questions:

  • What market solutions exist to offer AT under an ECATA as described?
  • How can the ECATA be designed to ensure national coverage? Are suppliers willing and able to form consortia and/or partnerships to help ensure national coverage is achieved? What lead-time would suppliers need to negotiate such arrangements?
  • Are the minimum market requirements right to empower NDIS participants? What ways  exist/can be developed to support informed consumer demand and use under an ECATA?
  • How can the ECATA be developed with the market to deliver efficiency and effectiveness?
  • What are the barriers and incentives to market adoption of the ECATA?
  • Options (current or emerging) to support trade and recycling of second hand AT?
