On-farm grain storage continues to play a critical role in driving the profitability of grain businesses across Australia.

Coordinated nationally, this investment for the Development & Extension (D&E) of best practice techniques and on-farm grain storage management, will be delivered across all grain growing regions of Australia. This investment aligns with GRDC’s Key Investment Target 4.3 Strategy and will support growers to optimise operational efficiencies during and after harvest, increase market opportunities particularly in high value crops, add value to cereal grain production through blending and segregation, and maintain seed quality for planting purposes.

The investment will engage with industry across the supply chain to develop and improve efficiencies delivering return on investment to growers and increasing farm profits. D&E activities within each region will be delivered by on-farm grain storage specialists with extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of storing grain, including but not limited to: experience in the understanding of design, structure and planning on-farm storage complexes to meet individual farming business requirements; the economics of storing grain on-farm including return on investment; harvester to storage handling management and logistics of all crops grown in Australia, pest management, logistics, grain quality and segregations as well as storing retained seed for planting.
