Soil management practices to ameliorate subsoil constraints is of considerable interest to grain growers. Research has shown that application of amendments and/or organic matter into the subsoil can produce significant improvements in crop growth and yield, sometimes lasting five years or more.

GRDC is seeking a consultant to report on the current state of materials research into agricultural ameliorants such as lime, gypsum, sulphur and organic matter with the aim to increase flowability for delivery into the subsoil. The report is required to outline who are the main research institutions (public or private) who could potentially work in developing new material technology for agricultural inputs. This exploratory analysis is required to complement current industry activity in soil amelioration and the machinery being developed to deliver ameliorant into the subsoil. It will also assist in identifying further areas of research and possible co-development opportunities for GRDC.
