This investment will identify, develop and support growers and their advisers to implement new knowledge, tools, technologies or practices into whole-of-farm systems to set new economically attainable grain yield benchmarks in High Rainfall Zones of Australia. The investment will put in place five major trial sites, of similar size and scale to the GRDC/FAR Hyper Yielding Site established in Hagley, Tasmania (FAR1506-001RTX), as GRDC Centres of Excellence for research and development, and as a hub or extension activities.

It is envisaged that the five GRDC Centres of Excellence will be located per the following; one in the Albany port zone of Western Australia, one in the lower south-east of South Australia, one in southern Victoria, one in south-eastern New South Wales, and one in Tasmania (irrigated). Final site selection and rationale should be developed by the applicant, recognising the aim to select sites where the water-limited yield potential is an aspirational 10 t/ha for wheat (wheat 10 t/ha, barley 10 t/ha, canola 5 t/ha, faba beans 5 t/ha). (Caveat: GRDC recognises these yields are aspirational, and that water limited potential will be specific to environmental constraints at each site.)
