Maintaining production systems on acidifying sub-soils by amelioration with commercial machinery
This investment is designed to evaluate the efficacy of new and novel commercial and pre-commercial machinery for subsoil amelioration that can incorporate ameliorants such as lime at depth within a no-till farming system. We are looking for more energy efficient ways to deliver lime, gypsum or organic amendments at depth. All treatments are to be fully costed to allow for the development of return on investment (ROI) and incorporate an assessment of the risk of not ameliorating i.e. doing nothing.
There is an expectation that applicants will have suitable experience, access to, and knowledge of a range of farm machinery options for placement and incorporation of ameliorants. Applicants will be able to demonstrate crop impacts with the use of machinery across at least 4 field trial sites in Southern NSW. It is expected that treatments will follow a scientific method and be able to collect research data including costs to demonstrate any differences in ameliorant and/or machinery.
