Motion Picture Film Scanner
The National Archives of Australia has a requirement for the supply and installation of one (1) motion picture film scanner at its Chester Hill site in order to produce high resolution scans of motion picture film to digital file, in line with industry recognised preservation standards.
The equipment must be capable of scanning film from the various formats in the collection which are predominantly 16mm and 35mm, including film soundtracks, both optical and magnetic. Other formats such as 8mm and 9.5mm would also be desirable.
The equipment should, as a minimum, meet the following specifications:
a.ability to scan 35mm at a minimum resolution of 4k (4096x2048) to an uncompressed file format;
b.ability to scan 16mm at a minimum resolution of 2k (2048x1536) to an uncompressed file format;
c.ability to digitise optical and magnetic audio formats to a minimum of 16bit 48kHz WAV or BWF;
d.ability to play and scan deformed, damaged and shrunk film formats.
