Description:

This tender falls under the Australian and Queensland government partnership to implement theReef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan (Reef 2050 Plan)which provides an overarching strategy for coordinating actions and guiding adaptive management to 2050. The Reef 2050 Plan responds to the challenges facing the Reef and presents actions to protect its values, health and resilience while allowing ecologically sustainable use. It addresses the findings of the Authority’s Great Barrier Reef Outlook Report 2014 (Outlook Report)and builds on the comprehensive Great Barrier Reef Region Strategic Assessment: Strategic Assessment Report 2014 (Strategic Assessment).The Plan was developed in close consultation with partners, including Traditional Owners.

A key part of the Plan is theReef 2050 Integrated Monitoring and Reporting Program(RIMReP) which will track the progress of the Reef 2050 Plan’s outcomes and targets across seven themes; ecosystem health; biodiversity; heritage; water quality; community benefits; economic benefits and governance. Increased knowledge and understanding of the Reef habitat, and changes to that habitat, is vital for effective tracking of progress against these themes, and critical to the protection and management of outstanding universal value and the Great Barrier Reef environment.

Purpose of Tender

This tender represents all three stages of a project to deliver a high-resolution and field-validated baseline habitat map characterizing important reef attributes including depth, geomorphic zonation and benthic composition.
