The Army Research Centre is seeking individuals to undertake paid research on topics that will inform future land force development and modernisation.

Areas of interest are wide ranging and include operational, technological, social, cultural and organisational topics. Research should inform an element or elements of an Army Modernisation Line of Effort (see Army Research and Development Plan) – additional guidance can be provided by reading the Future Land Warfare Report. Researchers from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

:

Information on how to apply for the Army Research Scheme can be found on the website at URL: http://www.army.gov.au/Our-future/Research/Research-scheme or by emailing Army.Research@defence.gov.au

Applicants are encouraged to submit an informal expression of interest prior to the submission of formal application. The expression of interest form provides a means to receive some feedback on your idea before you submit and application. However, it is not mandatory and applications can be submitted without an expression of interest.

Applications for FY 2017-18 are now open and will be assessed on a continuous basis until funds are exhausted. Funding will commence 1 July 2017.

Deadlines for submissions for the 2017-18 round is 1 February 2017.

:

To be eligible to apply for the Army Research and Development Scheme, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

a. Have current or prior service in a military organisation;

b. Have an affiliation with an academic institution or think tank; or

c. Be a registered business or institution that specialises in rigorous academic research or strategic consultancy.

The research outcomes sought are either articles (3000 to 5000 words) or stand alone papers (10,000 to 20,000 words). Army will facilitate publication of research in the first instance in either the Australian Army Journal or the Army Research Papers Series.

The Army Research Scheme will only fund research whose deliverables are conceptual in nature. For example, proposals that seek to develop a new or enhanced technology will not be funded – only the conceptual application of such technologies will be considered.

The service provider must comply with all ethics requirements of their host institution. In the event of any “human-related” research, the service provider must also comply with the ethics requirements of the Australian Defence Human Research Ethics Committee (ADHREC).

:

Projects are deliverable within 12 months of the project's start. (Projects requiring ethics approval may be extended).

:

Submissions can be sent to Army.Research@defence.gov.au
