ANPHA's objective is to establish a panel of suitable qualified individuals, organisations and/or institutions from whom ANPHA can seek services so that its preventive health policy development and advice is based on evidence from sound research and expertise and endorsed by expert opinion.  ANPHA will make available research results to the broader preventive health community.

ANPHA was established on 1 January 2011 under the "Australian National Preventive Health Agency Act 2010" to meet the challenges of obesity (including physical inactivity), harmful consumption of alcohol and tobacco smoking in Australia.  One of ANPHA's statutory functions is to build evidence relating to preventive health.  ANPHA also has a key role in developing evidence-based policy advice. Information about ANPHA's activities and copies of publications can be found on the website at http://ANPHA.gov.au.

ANPHA has developed the "National Preventive Health Research Strategy 2013-2018" advocating research through collaborative, integrated approaches.  Panel members are expected to undertalke research tasks according to the model put forward in the Strategy. ANPHA has been charged with focussing its initial efforts on the risks and burden of disease associated with obesity, tobacco use, and harmful alcohol consumption.  Projects to be undertaken by panel members will concentrate on these risk factors.

ANPHA welcomes submissions from suitably qualified individuals, organisations and institutions with a range of specialised services.  All agencies of the Health and Ageing porfolio, as well as other Government agencies, will be able to utilise this panel.

:

An Industry Briefing will be held on 21 August 2013 at 11.00 am to 12.30 pm at the Canberra Club, Canberra House, 40 Marcus Clark Street, Canberra, 2601.

The panel is expected to begin in November 2013 and terminate by November 2016.

The panel may be approached at varying times during the three years of the life of the panel.  The Agency will approach the panel to conduct research as the need arises.
