This ATM falls under the Australian and Queensland government partnership to implement theReef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan (Reef 2050 Plan)which provides an overarching strategy for coordinating actions and guiding adaptive management of the Great Barrier Reef to 2050.  A key part of the this Plan is the establishment of the Reef 2050 Integrated Monitoring and Reporting Programwhich will track the progress of the Reef 2050 Plan’s outcomes and targets across seven themes; ecosystem health; biodiversity; heritage; water quality; community benefits; economic benefits and governance.

Traditional Owner input and knowledge is vital for effective tracking of progress against these themes, and to inform management and decision making to better protect the values of the Marine Park and World Heritage Area.  For such knowledge sharing to occur, GBRMPA needs to have in place the appropriate protocols and legal agreements to satisfy Traditional Owners on how their information will be used, stored and managed, protected and maintained, and that information will remain their intellectual property.

The Potential Supplier is required to develop protocols for managing cultural information, including negotiating Data Sharing Agreements with Traditional Owners and procedures for the appropriate storage and handling of this information with Traditional Owners.
