The Department invites suitably qualified consultants/contractors to submit a tender for the Supply and Installation of suitable chain and sprockets for the AAT Dome Shutter. Requirements include:

(a)    AAT Dome Shutter drive chain and sprockets to be replaced as soon as possible.

(b)    Chain shall be replaced with a 1.5”pitch triple chain.

(c)    To provide a Factor of Safety of 7.0, as recommended for non-passenger lifting applications, the replacement chain should have min ultimate strength of 567.3 kN.

(d)    ISO 606 B series chain (“European Standard”) is preferable due to a better wear resistance.

(e)    No allowance has been made in the telescope operations schedule for the chain replacement.  The installation activity will need to be carefully planned to ensure that the telescope is operational each night.

(f)    Provision of a spare chain and sprocket set to allow for any future failures which may occur in the future.

(g)    Disposal of old chain and sprockets.

(h)    Supply a planned maintenance schedule to ensure the longevity of the replacement chain.
